چکیده

Abstract. A potential control of downstream channel width variations on the structure and planform pool–riffle sequence local bed topography is a key to dynamics gravel rivers. How established sequences respond time-varying changes in at specific locations, however, largely unexplored challenging address with field-based study. Here, we report results flume experiment aimed building understanding how statistically steady profiles adjust spatially prescribed changes. We find that slopes near steady-state conditions inversely correlate gradients when upstream sediment supply approximates estimated transport capacity. This result constrains prior following imposed Furthermore, this relationship between slope gradient consistent expectations from scaling theory broad set field-based, numerical, experimental studies (n=88). However, disruptions coarse through actions such as dam removal can transient flipping expected inverse correlation gradient, collectively highlighting critical before typically implemented spatial averaging schemes be reliably applied.

Downstream variations in the width of bedrock channels

Field surveys of channel width w and drainage area A in bedrock channel reaches reveal relationships where w 5 cA, similar to the classic hydraulic geometry of alluvial channels. Data from five mountain channel networks support the assumption used in many landscape evolution models that an alluvial hydraulic geometry relationship where b 5 0.3–0.5 holds for bedrock channel systems. Although the...

Interactions Between Bed Forms: Topography, Turbulence, and Transport

Results are presented examining the interaction between two sandy bed forms under low–sediment transport conditions in a small laboratory flume. The initial artificially made bed forms were out of equilibrium with the flow field. Temporal evolution of bed forms was monitored using time-lapse photography in order to characterize bed form adjustment to the imposed flow. Velocity measurements were...

Localized Coupling between Surface and Bottom-Intensified Flow over Topography

Substantial bottom topography in a basin with planetary vorticity gradients strongly affects the vertical structure of the linear topographic and planetary Rossby waves that spin up the ocean circulation. There is no barotropic mode with large amplitude topography and stratification. It is shown that the lowest frequency two-layer quasigeostrophic waves that exist with stratification, planetary...

patterns and variations in native and non-native interlanguage pragmatic rating: effects of rater training, intercultural proficiency, and self-assessment

although there are studies on pragmatic assessment, to date, literature has been almost silent about native and non-native english raters’ criteria for the assessment of efl learners’ pragmatic performance. focusing on this topic, this study pursued four purposes. the first one was to find criteria for rating the speech acts of apology and refusal in l2 by native and non-native english teachers...
